Owl Nest

A small, private integration that keeps an eye on an authorized Google Nest thermostat and helps its owner understand when their home is heating or cooling.

Private by design

Owl Nest is a non-commercial, personal-use tool. The integration uses Google’s Smart Device Management API with the thermostat owner’s authorization. Its software only reads supported device information; it does not send commands to change thermostat settings.

Collected observations are stored locally on the owner’s Windows computer and may be displayed in a separately authenticated dashboard called Owl’s Lookout. This public website has no access to thermostat readings, Google credentials, or the private dashboard.

About Google authorization

Google's permission screen may display the OAuth app name ha-home. That is the Google Cloud application used for this Owl Nest integration. Access can be revoked through the Google/Nest account connection settings.
